This recipe offers endless customization possibilities. You can enjoy it as a simple chocolate flavor or you can get creative and add nuts, fruits, and even cookie pieces.

The Recipe that Took years to Bloom:
For those who have been following me, I love to do trial and error in recipes before sharing them. For instance, my sourdough bread recipe has an ideal recipe because of months of testing and now it has a place of honor! Much the same, a lot of time was spent perfecting this protein ice cream recipe too. Looking for an ideal balance in texture and flavor is very difficult to achieve and takes loads of effort.
Success of the recipe stems from the simple but important step of adding 2 tablespoons of chocolate sauce. From the very onset, the protein powder provides an excellent base, but what this ice cream really lacks is depth in chocolate flavor. The sauce adds a much needed rich touch to the recipe. I assure you, this step changes everything.
No Pudding Mix Required
When I first learned of the Ninja Creami, I found that many recipes utilized a sugar-free pudding mix to achieve a thick and creamy texture. While that is an option, I would rather not use low or zero-calorie sweeteners and would use whole food ingredients instead. So I found an excellent superfood that does the same thing as a pudding mix while giving extra nutrition. The end result? A delicious and creamy protein ice cream that is rich without the sacrifice of health and quality.
Chocolate Protein Ice Cream: A Versatile Classic
This chocolate version is a spin-off of my vanilla version of the Ninja Creami protein ice cream recipe. Both flavors are a classic and serve as a base for shredded mix-ins. But my revelation was that chocolate protein powder on a stand-alone basis didn’t taste or sweeten sufficiently. That’s where the homemade chocolate sauce provides. It is refined sugar free, easy to make, and boosts the overall flavor. You are welcome to try other options of chocolate sauce but I strongly suggest you give my recipe a try!

Ninja Creami Protein Ice Cream Utilization
This step in delicious dessert creation is perfect for those who want something sweet while paying attention to their health as it is rich in protein. Its taste makes it suitable for athletes, other food enthusiasts, and those who relish the sweet stuff, so don’t feel left out anymore.
How to Make Protein Ice Cream:
A Step-by-Step Guide
The first step in healthy dessert preparation in a Ninja Creami is simple. Achieving the best results does require extra effort though so here are a few tips:
1. Get rid of the lid:
Freezing the dessert while leaving the lid off prevents the surface from forming an unwanted dome shape. By only having ice cream mixture in the container you also reduce unnecessary strain on the blade.
2. Warm it a little before processing:
Making the frozen mixture sit out for about 10 minutes will warm the edges of it, softening the rest and allowing for smoother processing.
3. Soak under hot water:
Soaking the container in hot water for about 30 seconds facilitates the melting of icy surfaces on the outside of the dessert while achieving an even texture.
4.Use Full Ice Cream Cycle:
For the most creamy results, set your Ninja Creami to the light ice cream cycle.
5.Scrape the Edges:
After the first cycle, scrape the edges of the container to mix up the icy bits, then continue to blend until the texture is silky smooth.
6. Mix-Ins:
Get creative with mix-ins like nuts, fruits, or chocolate chips. After putting the mix-ins, put your blender on “mix-in” cycle and run it on low to incorporate them into the ice cream.
7.Warm Up To Enjoy:
You will now get to enjoy a smooth, protein filled dessert sans the worries.
Benefits of This Recipe
You will never need to buy pre-made ice cream full of chemicals after tasting this homemade dessert. This chocolate Ninja Creami comes with great flavor.

Ingredients
Protein Ice Cream Ingredients
2 cups (16 oz) whole milk
2 scoops (64 grams) Brownie Batter protein powder
1 scoop (10 grams) chocolate collagen
2-3 Tbs. (40 grams) chocolate sauce
Mix-In Options
protein cookie dough
fresh banana or fruit of choice
2 Tbs. mini chocolate chips
2-3 Tbs. creamy peanut butter
Directions
- Put all of the ingredients needed to create the protein ice cream in the 24 oz Ninja Creami bowl (works with the Ninja Creami Deluxe 11-in-1 Model: NC501) and mix them all. You can do this by whisking, immersing the blender, or frothing it, while feel free to also shake the blender bottle with the ice cream ingredients before blending for added convenience. For the Ninja Creami 7 in 1 Model: Nc301, please make exactly half of this recipe.
- It is recommended to freeze the bowl for 12 hours minimum, while aiming to do so overnight. When doing so, cover the bulged surface so that it doesn’t fill with ice and causes the top to become unevenly shaped.
- To serve, remove the bowl from your freezer and put it on a flat surface at room temperature for around 10 minutes. If it has a bulge, scrape off the top layer using a silver spoon. Pour hot water over the container for around 30-60 seconds before letting it dry fully. Doing so allows the machine to remain intact, aids in filler removal, and achieves smoother textures in less spins.
- Afterwards, insert the bowl back into the Ninja Creami Deluxe and, while doing so, pour in the blended ingredient to enable freezing. Using the full light ice cream cycle button will do the job efficiently and properly. The ice cream will appear appropriately thick and creamy afterwards. A common issue associated with lower fat milk is a craggy appearance. To increase smoothness, add 2 tbs of milk and switch the cycle to respin.
- Using a scraping tool, remove the container’s side in order to create a hole about ¾ deep in the center. Pour in any mix-ins you desire such as: gluten-free and protein cookie dough, mini-chocolate chips, or peanut butter.
- After adding the ingredients, place the container back into the machine and initiate a full mix-in cycle.
- This recipe yields two servings. Consume the ice cream immediately while savoring the taste. The blog post contains free macros for regular and Fairlife 2% milk. For more information on the sub left over and storage, please check the notes.
Notes
- Milk Options: Use Fairlife 2% milk for the highest protein at 34g per serving. For almond or low-fat milk, add one to two tablespoons more after the first cycle, scrape the sides and respin to increase texture.
- Leftovers: Before freezing the leftovers, flatten the top section. Do ‘bottom’ cycles when reheating leftovers in order to maintain texture.
- Protein Powder: To achieve a smooth texture, Clean Simple Eats is the most optimal protein powder. Any collagen powder will suffice, but the flavor may differ according to the brand.
- Dairy-Free/Vegan: When going dairy-free or vegan, replace milk with plant-based alternatives and use Aloha vegan protein powder. Recipe testing for vegan options is constant!
