All About Gluten-Free Donuts

For me, the best and most loved culinary delights to make are gluten-free donuts. Truly, nothing captures the heart quite like the taste of fresh donuts, especially when they are so easy to make. With barely twenty minutes of your time, it will be enough to serve warm and delicious oven-ready donuts.

This is why being gluten free should not prevent any individual from enjoying chocolate cake donuts. A basic donut pan and a couple of baking essentials will do the trick. With these supplies, you can start preparing donuts in the comfort of your home!

Gluten-Free Donuts Step By Step Preparation Guide

Here’s a detailed guide for you so that you can indulge in these delicious donuts step by step:

1. Set your oven temperature to 350F.

2. Apply a light coat of gluten-free cooking spray on your donut pan.

3. In a bowl, combine your gluten-free flour with salt, baking powder, baking soda, xanthan gum and baking soda (if your flour already has xanthan gum, do not add it).

4. In a large bowl, mix the mazzard sugar, butter (or oil), milk, vanilla extract, and cocoa powder along with an egg until the mixture is smooth.

5. Pour in the drenched ingredients into the dry mix at a steady pace while stirring. The batter should turn out to be firm.

6. Place the batter in any form of a plastic bag and put the bag into a cup. This is an easier than way to fill the bag.

7. Squeeze the batter out through the newly made hole from the bag and pipe into the donut form.

8. Place the donuts in the oven for 10-12 minutes.

9. To make the glaze, shower all of the sprinkles over the warm donuts. For the glaze, pour the nuts and the batter into the bowl and blend it.

10. Once the donuts are on the plate or wire rack, let them cool for a while before savoring them.

11. Put all of the donuts in a sealable box to keep them fresh.

Tips for Unique Glutton Free Donuts

These will make it similar, so here are some practical ones:

Piping the batter: Mess free piping of the batter in the donut pan is possible if a plastic bag is utilized. Put the bag inside a tall cup, make folds at the top end, and put the batter inside the bag.

Greasing the pan: It is recommended to spray the donut pan with gluten free cooking spray. This is done nicely with a Coconut oil cooking spray.

What If There Is No Donut Pan Available?

Ideally this recipe is designed for a donut pan, but a muffin or mini muffin pan will work in its absence. Just remember that the muffins will take a little longer to bake. Add an extra 2 minutes to the suggested start time and check if they are ready.

Are You Able To Freeze Gluten Free Donuts?

Absolutely! Freezing these donuts off is no work at all! Here’s how you can do it:

With glaze: Just freeze the glazed donuts after they have cooled off. Place them onto a sheet pan and place in the freezer until set. Then, put the donuts into a freezer bag and they will save up for 3 months.

Without glaze: The plain donuts can be stored into a freezer bag after they cool off. And yes, they will save up for three months.

All you need to do, is defrost by putting them in the refrigerator for a night or in the microwave for a bit if there is no glaze on them.

Choosing The Right Flour Free of Gluten

Pillsbury Gluten-Free All Purpose flour is the best gluten free flour I love for baking. However, keep in mind that since it is gluten free, varied brands of flour function differently. Hence you must use a rice flour blend that is designed specifically for 1:1 substitution because it is very crucial to do so.

When creating a multi-purpose blend, it is crucial to include xanthan gum as it improves the texture of standard flour. In cases where the xanthan gum is already mixed in the flour, do not over add as it makes the donuts too pliable which can lead to their destruction. Almond and coconut flour will not work in this recipe as it was developed for a specific rice flour blend.

Precise Method of Pouring a Gluten-Free Flour

The spoon and level method will offer the best results. Grab a spoon and then  level the flour into your measuring cup before leveling it with the back of a knife. Avoid putting your spoon directly into the bag as this will overpack the measure and get you more than needed.

What Brand Of Gluten-Free Sprinkles Do You Recommend?

One question that I receive regularly is whether some sprinkles are gluten-free. In my honest opinion, Great Value and Wilton sprinkles from Walmart are the best options. You can also use them to add glaze to your donuts. In my family, it is a well-known fact that my children and I am united on one statement, more sprinkles is great because it is simply more enjoyable!

Chocolate Donuts (Dairy-Free)

Are you dairy sensitive? No need to worry. This recipe can be done even without the dairy component. I usually employ Smart Balance butter and almond milk as dairy-free substitutes. Using coconut oil with unsweetened almond, cashew, or coconut milk is also an option. For those allergic to nuts, soy milk is also a great option.

The dairy-free version tastes as great as the original. So regardless of their dietary restrictions, everyone can enjoy these donuts.

Why It’s a Big Win to Make Your Own Gluten-Free Donuts

Making your own gluten-free donuts is very handy, with the preparation and baking taking only 20 minutes. And these soft chocolate donuts, featuring a rich glaze and sprinkles, make for a perfect breakfast, dessert, or a special treat at any hour of the day.

Well, it’s your chance to put this recipe into practice and relish the taste of homemade gluten-free chocolate donuts!
